This is escapism

In this work I explore escapism in terms of reflective surfaces in watery environments. I believe that looking at the surface of water, whether it is choppy, calm or rippled, provides a a sense of freedom through which viewers can escape their own distinct, disturbing thoughts into a clearer consciousness. Just being near a body of water can make the viewer feel more tranquil. Despite the fact that these painting series are real places, I don’t want that to be a sole focus of the work. The focus is on encouraging viewers to form their own conclusions about whether the place is real or not. Their own imagination must speak for itself in order to escape.
