Themes explored in this work include tension, resilience, loss and grief. When helping my dad to lamb the sheep on our farm, I have experienced these emotions.
I enjoy working with everyday materials and elevating them in a way that makes the viewer look again. I intended the objects in this series of work to represent feminine strength and resilience. I was interested in creating tension between the materials giving a feeling of things being stretched to their absolute limit, to breaking point.
Farm life is a constant journey from exterior to interior and back out again. Staging the objects at the farm and in my domestic interior provided an opportunity to explore not only the relationship between object and environment but also the relationship between environments.
