Children's books are the foundations of building a strong, emotional consciousness in our early lives. Illustrating well known stories for younger audiences to understand offers young children a chance to be included in a narrative that adults also relate to. Playfully composing each scene by entwining it with tonal values and colour is important to my practise—especially for a target audience that is still developing. Playing with cool tones to exaggerate how disequilibrium is untold can fortify the growing mind at an early age, and boost psychological understanding of empathy. I use warm colours to encourage children to feel a connection between emotion and visual stimulation, ones of positive affirmation for the new feelings they may struggle to rationalise. Reflecting real emotions within a fictional storyline encourages the imagination to grow.
