I’ve always been fascinated with the long-faded fantasy interpretation of Americana, whether that is through painting, music, culture, film, whatever. The commercialised and idealistic self-mythologisation that pervades a certain strata of American culture, through figures like Prince, Madonna, Schwarzenegger or Bukowski, represents to me more than an era, but an approach to art, literature and music that faded with the coming of the digital world. My goal is to follow in the tradition of the 60’s countercultural pop artists, celebrating a more philistine approach to fine art, and turning baser, more commercial elements of the American myth into contemporary art.
