'Unsent Postcards of Langrish, Hampshire' is a series of six painted landscape postcards of my hometown of Langrish in the south of England. The paintings explore, with varying levels of subtlety, the ideas of home, physical distance and nostalgia. Inspiration was drawn from many sources including, but not limited to, stained glass windows, naïve and pseudo-naïve art and the tradition of the picture postcard. The existence of this project relies on the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The subject matter was a decision necessitated by travel restrictions during the majority of the semester and I only met the intended recipient of the postcards, my boyfriend Issachar, because of the pandemic.
