Datganiad/Statement

This body of work is concerned with colour; colour relationships, the interaction of colours, and my response to the winter landscape, whilst travelling to and from South Shropshire to Aberystwyth over the past eighteen months.

Whilst colours in the winter landscape tend to be subtle, some are less so, and others from seasons past remain subdued. Using a limited palette, the paintings are based on abstraction from the natural world, seeking to explore and present a sensory response to the ever-changing light, colour, mood, weather and atmosphere of a mountainous environment, namely the road to Pumlumon Fach.

The work is set within the theoretical framework of Josef Albers’ Interaction of Color.
