Drawings

I am drawn to a particular subject matter because either it elicits from me an immediate aesthetic response or poses a challenge to draw or paint.  A theme for an extended body of work requires both criteria, as well as presenting the possibility of being realised in a variety of ways. I have continually returned to the subject of pill packets for the purpose of drawing them. Each pill packet is identical to every other one of its type, however, once the pills have been pressed out, the packet is deformed in a unique way. This offers unlimited compositional arrangement and scope for repeated analysis.  The drawings displayed in the exhibition form part of an extensive inquiry that has been conducted since 2002.  The body of work has explored a broad range of different techniques, which have provided tangible illustrations of the possibilities of drawings, used in my teaching demonstrations.
